This week’s List is focussed on SDG Resources and Case Studies, and features several recent reports, guides and case studies focused on embedding the SDGs into the curriculum, research and operations.

Everyone seems to be writing up their experiences of integrating the SDGs, which is fantastic, but overwhelming if you are trying to wrap your head around it. I try to filter through some of the noise for you with List, and will be diving deeper into some of these case studies to pick out the ones that I think are worth sharing. Stay tuned for more!

As always, if you have any special requests for future Lists, or anything you would like to share, just let me know.

Have a great week!

1. ENGAGING WITH THE GOALS

Carnegie Mello University’s Sustainability Initiative in the US, in partnership with the UN Foundation, developed the “Resource Guide” for U.S. universities to engage with the Sustainable Development Goals. The guide explores how post-secondary institutions can localize the SDGs. The overarching guide includes three questions that institutions should answer before embarking on the process, and the more detailed guides lay out how it can be done across education, research, and operations. Here is an article summarising the approach and a link to the guide and specific guidance on education, researchand operations.

2. KEY COMPETENCIES

This guide on Practical Approaches to Teaching Sustainability was developed by the Sustainability Curriculum Consortium at the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education. The guide highlights a range of innovative approaches that faculty at universities in the U.S. are employing to prepare students with the competencies necessary to understand sustainability challenges and develop and implement solutions.

+The examples are not business school focused, which I think is a good thing and an opportunity to explore how other disciplines are approaching these topics, but also how you might partner with these other disciplines to strengthen your approach.

3. PRME GLOBAL FORUM

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to attend this year’s PRME Global Forum (the first one I have ever missed!) The event brings together signatories to the Principles for Responsible Management Education to explore how to engage in responsible management, and the SDGs. All the sessions were recorded and are available to watch online. A few SDG focused ones (although they are all SDG focused to a certain degree):

- SDG Learners in the Digital Era

- Breaking Down Barriers to Early Career Impact

- How to Change Business Schools and the World

- Introduction to Pedagogical Impact

4. SDG CASE STUDIES

Signatories to the SDG Accord have shared several case studies on how the SDGs are being integrated within their community. The case studies are organised by SDG and come from institutions located around the world. Their annual report also gives some thoughts on the progress that Universities and the college sector have made on the SDGs as well as quick summaries of some of the case studies.

5. READING LIST

The Network for Business Sustainability is a fantastic resource and full of articles I wish I had written for you myself (and hopefully will after I get this book manuscript submitted!). Here is a short list to get you started:

- How to Change a System in 3 Months

- How to start a Business School Sustainability Centre

- And then of course, How to Run a Business School Sustainability Centre (co-written by Heather Ranson who runs one of the best…)

- Effective Outreach for Sustainability Research

BONUS: I must, of course, mention my own book, The Sustainable MBA: A Business Guide to Sustainability and encourage you to take a look at the resources on the SDGs on my website here. Also, a reminder that if you go to list.giselleweybrecht.com, you can have a look through all past examples organised by SDG and by theme as well as more SDG resources here.
